Early Morning Pick-Up
The adventure begins before sunrise, usually around 4:30 to 5:00 AM. Guests are picked up from their lodges or camps and driven to the launch site. The early start ensures you catch the sunrise from the skies, one of the most magical moments of the safari.
Pre-Flight Briefing and Balloon Inflation
At the launch site, you’ll meet your pilot and crew.
The pilot gives a safety briefing and explains what to expect during the flight.
You’ll watch as the hot air balloon is inflated, a fascinating process that takes about 20-30 minutes.
Once the balloon is ready, you’ll climb into the basket and get ready for takeoff
The Flight – Soaring Over the Savannah
The balloon lifts gently off the ground, and you’re soon floating silently above the African plains.
The flight lasts about 1 to 1.5 hours depending on the weather.
You’ll glide over wildlife-rich areas, spotting animals such as:
Elephants
Lions
Giraffes
Buffalos
Hippos
The pilot provides commentary, pointing out wildlife and interesting features of the landscape.
The peaceful silence and panoramic views create a once-in-a-lifetime experience
Sunrise Views and Photography
As you float across the sky, you’ll witness a stunning sunrise over the horizon.
This is a perfect time for photography, capturing the golden hues of the sun and the wildlife below.
The views are ever-changing, from river crossings to vast plains dotted with acacia trees
Landing and Celebration
After about an hour, the pilot will guide the balloon to a safe landing spot.
The landing can be gentle or a bit bumpy, depending on the wind.
Once on the ground, the crew will assist you out of the basket.
Champagne Breakfast in the Bush
Following the landing, you’ll be treated to a traditional champagne breakfast in the bush.
This breakfast often includes pastries, fruits, eggs, bacon, and local delicacies, all served in the wild.
The champagne toast is a long-standing tradition that celebrates your successful flight
Optional Game Drive Back to the Lodge
After breakfast, some balloon safaris offer an optional game drive back to your lodge, giving you another chance to spot wildlife on the ground.
